Lowing Scoring Affair Breaks Hawks Way; Series Ends 3 Games to 3
Voyagers Come Up Short In Contested Game
(Great Falls, Mt.) Both teams came in to the final game of a 6 game home stand desperately in search of a win. The Boise Hawkes (42-42/14-22) versus the home team Great Falls Voyagers (32-51/18-19) both needed a win to stay relevant in the second half battle for the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Voyagers they came up just short in this one losing 4-2.
The Voyagers behind starting pitcher, Tyler Naumann, got off to a great start in the bottom of the first inning. The Voyagers got a run as leadoff hitter, Xane Washington, got a single to left. He promptly stole second for his 17th steal of the season. Washington was brought home on a single to left field by Riley Jepson.
Naumann looked to be in command but a walk, stolen base, wild pitch and sacrafice fly brought home a runner for the Hawkes in the 2nd inning tying up the score. The Voyagers scored once again in the 5th inning as Andy Atwood had a double to center and was brought home once again on a single to left by Jepson. The lead didn't last long however as the Hawkes scored on in the top of the 6th to tie it at 2-2.
Naumann left in the 7th with the score tied and relief pitcher Bobby Vath came in and unfortunately gave up two runs on 3 hits to the Hawkes. The Voyagers loaded the bases up in the 8th inning on 3 walks but were unable to push any runs across and ended up losing the game 4-2.
This concluded the 6 game home stand for the Voyagers with a 3-3 record. The Voyagers will take Monday off then play 12 games in 12 days to finish off the season. With 9 games on the road and the final 3 at home versus Boise. The Voyagers will be back on September 7th for a 3 game series so don't miss out on YOUR chance to see the Voyagers in action!!
